Your Med Kit or "Medic!!!"

Good Morning folks, I was working with a knife yesterday and cut my hand.  Not a bad cut, but just enough to make me want to talk to you about your med kit.  Most of us have a first aid kit in the home, but what about in your car or in the field.  Today, I want to talk with you about your med kit, the one that should be in your go bag.  Your med kit should have everything needed to treat minor cuts, up to and including emergency penetration and sucking chest wounds.  The importance should be obvious, as an ambulances can take 10 to 15 mins in an urban environment and up to an hour in a rural one.  Having a med kit can save your life, the lives of your loves ones, or anyone else in need. When something bad happens, call 911, then get to work. Here's what I have in my med kit.

Water Bottle Filter

Good Morning, I woke up pretty thirsty and drank about a half gallon of water.  It reminded me, I was suppose to give you a tutorial on building a water bottle filter.  It's pretty quick and can limit the amount of pathogens and chemicals you find in foreign water sources, and provide you clearer water to drink. That being said, it's still best to boil or purify after filtering.  Let's begin with what you need:

Family Rescue Bag or "BOB"

The Go Bag, Bug Out Bag or as I like to call it, the Family Rescue bag can be any shape, size or weight.  The items inside can vary by country, season, and environment.  Ultimately, the bag is about having the right kit for the job.  When we talked about shelter last week, I talked about a few items from your kit that would make building a shelter quick and painless.  But I never gave you an example of a bag to build to help you out.  So, to all of you who said, what kit, here it is.

A Little About Me or "What Makes Me Think I'm Qualified...."

You know, everyday I think about new and exciting topics to write about.  Today, really I just want to talk about me, lol.  I've on this planet for almost 40 years now and have seen and done some amazing things.  I started my career in the USAF as a Security Forces Airman.  I like to call them the infantry of the Air Force.  We specialized in air base ground defense, priority resources, law enforcement and personnel protection.  We spent a lot of time in the field, digging foxholes, conducting patrols and learning to ambush attackers.

 We were trained on vehicle, weapons systems, and crossed trained with our sister services.

 We were armed with M16A2 rifles and M9 pistols.   All of this started to shape my young life and helped me to develop my principles of personal protection, security,

I Want a Knife....

Good Afternoon, I'm sure most of you are thinking, I've seen at least 4 knife pics in your last few articles.  It's weird, but I've had knives since I was about 9 years old, and not one knife truly fit me well.  My first knife, Black Deer (the sheath had a black deer on it), was a 9" long bladed hunting knife, surface rust and a dull blade.  My father gave it to me, to make us feel safer sleeping in the back room of a shotgun style house.  In an urban environment, the back door isn't where you want your bedroom.  I loved that knife, lost it sometime around high school and haven't looked back much.  It was poor quality stainless steel and I could never get an edge on it.  

Shelter...Exposure Will Kill You Quicker Than Zombies Part I

Good day everyone, I'll like to continue with our survival series, talking about shelter.  Many people don't consider shelter because there are just so many man-made structures around.

 And they're right, in an urban setting, shelter is more about finding a safe spot.  But just outside our sprawling urban environments is the place call nature.  And if you've ever had to call roadside assistance, 3 o'clock in the morning, during winter, in the middle of nowhere, you know nature can be a tough cookie.

 Even worst if your cell phone is dead.  Or that day-trip to the national park goes sideways when you get lost off the trails.  To that end, I'll like to talk about creating temporary shelters to wait out rescue, even if it's just a tow-truck.  Lets begin with weather.

Ruger 22/45, as much fun as you can have with a handgun

Hey friends, just want to tell you about one of my all time favorite pistols.  It's the Ruger 22/45.  My model is a Mark II version and I picked it up used, in around 2008.  This model  has a beautiful 5" bull barrel and accuracy is excellent.

My Honda Beast!

So...for some reason, I decided to forget I had a backyard for a spell, almost one year, and the results were epic.  I had plants growing up to my ribs.  What to do, what to do.  I was excited because I could use all my bush crafting skills, and show you guys the business, lol.  Unfortunately, that didn't appeal to the wife anymore, and kids were scared to play back there, so enter the beast.  I'm speaking of course about my Honda mower.  I've had this wonderful machine for about 5 years and its amazing.  I've never had a problem even with the toughest of tasks.  But this was it's roughest challenge yet!

There are many problems and issue we go thru in life.  And it's hard to see the scope of the problem when we're going thru it.  I, myself, battle with anxiety, and during the most difficult times, I have a hard time evaluating the cause of the specific issue.  I think that's why we look to friends and family when we're hurting, because they have the objectivity to see the problems for what really they are.  The funny thing is, it's rare that we take that advice.  How many times have you admitted to yourself, Aunt Sally was right.

We get what we want

How many times have you talked to that friend or family member who keeps putting themselves into problems, then comes to you for answers.  Believe or not, you do it too.  We make decisions in life and most of the time we get what we want out of it.  The sad thing is, not understanding what we want. It throws us into those very same types of problems we're fighting to get out of.  We all think that we're squared away and have this thing call life under control.  The truth is, you can't control life, all you can do is adapt to it.  Think carefully about your wants & needs, and make an effort to see the pitfalls before you fall in.

I know, a little heavy tonight, but I just want you all to know, Being honest with ourselves and

thinking thru a situation, is the first line of safety & security. Cheers

10 Essential tools for the Home

Hey guys, hope your day is going well.  Today, we’re going to talk about some tools, as we begin our home improvement series.  These tools are the basics needed to repair most of the simple issues we find in our homes daily.  Most of these tools can be found the general store (Walmart) or online (Amazon) for very reasonable prices and their value will last a lifetime.  Let’s begin with the Mighty Hammer.

Similar to Thor’s Mjölnir, the hammer is the superstar of the house.  While we don’t drive that many nails around here, but when it’s time to hang a picture or smash something, the hammer gets all the applause.  It’s my son favorite tool, it takes little skill to wield and is quite fun to knock around.

Review of the Olympic Arms K9-GL The original 9mm AR that uses glock mags My first impressions were wow, its looks just like a regular AR-15. This was my first time encountering a pistol cal AR-15. In all the web forums they look much smaller, I guess it’s because SBR's seem to be the rage for pistol cal ARs. I looked inside and saw this weird looking wire wrapped around a post in the middle of the upper with a tail hanging off of it.

I actually audibly WTFed. Maybe I didn’t pay enough attention on the boards, but the more I inspected the weapon, the more I noticed the operating system wasn’t regular old AR-15 with a larger bolt.

Karambit...One Badass Blade

Hello, welcome back to the Everyday Carry series of Khezcorner.  As your host, I’ll introduce you to the items that have worked well for me.  Hopefully you can find items & info that will aid your Everyday Carry needs.

The Karambit is in my opinion one of the most vicious of tactical knifes.  The unique features of the curved blade and finger ring make even the novice a dangerous opponent.  Combine that with a short blade and you’ve got the perfect defensive weapon. One that won’t be seen, but will be felt.  The karambit is an ancient weapon that originates in far southeast Asia.  It’s found in use, to this day, in the Philippines and Malaysia.  It’s built to be a weapon of stealth, created to allow villages a last defense against marauders and enemy soldiers.  This weapon is truly versatile in that both men and women wielded it with great skill.

Cutting the Cord....On Mother's Day Part I

Morning folks, 

Before you call me the worst son in history, I'm talking about ditching cable and telephone services.  To tell you truth, I did it because it was getting unnecessarily expensive and I just couldn't justify it anymore.  Interestingly enough, most of the services I use now, I used then, and with little effort and I saved money monthly.  So follow me on this quest, and let me upgrade you.

So I guess my two-year contract ended with my cable company, and they had the audacity to want to charge

me almost triple what I was paying for my bundle, e.g., cable, internet and phone.  I couldn't believe it and I gave them a call to talk it out.  I don't like messy break-ups, and who knows we could possible still be friends, lol.  Unfortunately, my cable company just wasn't having it, I talked them down to double, but I just couldn't see paying that much.  The guy on the phone actually said, "this is the best deal around, what you going to do without our services."  I literally laughed in his face, and told him I'd call back.  He issued a challenge and I was up for the task.

Water...Life sucks without it

Why

Water is an essential part of life.  So If you want to live, get real familiar with it.  Whether you're running back and forth to job sites, getting some exercise, or just lazing around like me, water will make everything a little better.  So, there's some statistics that says both the earth and the human body is made of about 75% water.  With that much water hanging around, why should you care where to find it, how to treat it, and how to safely handle it?

Where you get it

Like we said before, water's everywhere, but there's only a few safe sources available to us American humans.  The most obvious is the tap.  It's the government approved, most guaranteed way to provide water to the masses.  You could get it from the store, bottled water is a multi-billion dollar industry in America, and rightly so because many of us just don't trust the tap.  You can buy it in 8 oz bottles or up to 5 gals at a time.  This is great because the store is around the corner, and opened 24/7.  But what happens when it's not opened, and that tap stops flowing.  Where are you getting water now?

Of course, after watching and reading stories about places like Flint, Michigan, people might not be to excited about tap water. Even if you use filters, you can't prevent that much lead from affecting you and your love ones.

Collection

Where to collect water can be a book unto itself, but let's just talk basics.  As a reminder, basic purifying is necessary to make any of these methods potable. The rain catch, by far is the easiest way to collect water. All you have to do is to hook one of these devises to your rain spout and chill until you need it.  My mom swears by hers, for hear garden, lol.  The collection tanks can be gallon drum up to huge tanks. (Californian's please check your local laws seriously, I hear it's illegal during your drought.)
